DREAM is a Saturday and summer academic program that prepares eligible seventh-grade New York City public school students to take the Specialized High Schools Admissions Test (SHSAT) in the eighth grade.

Fall Program: September-SHSAT Date

Saturdays; 8:30am-1:30pm

Foundational work on SHSAT topics, community building, SHSAT test skills, guidance and getting ready for summer test preparation.

Intensive SHSAT prep with multiple practice tests, advisory and fun brain breaks, guidance sessions to prepare for high school.

Review of summer content, additional practice test opportunities, make a test-day game plan.

Students participate in all program sessions from spring through fall.

Attending the summer is required to attend the fall program.

Spring Program Details

Speed and Fun in Math and ELA

This speed component will get students practicing fast mental math, quickly identifying parts of speech and rapidly reading and annotating text. Teamwork, games and competitions make this important speed work fun.

Community Building

Isolated Hands and Help Icon Flat Design

Fun opportunities for students to get to know one another, build community, manage stress, build a growth mindset, practice critical thinking and have some brain breaks.

Students will get ample time to work on projects related to the tougher topics on the SHSAT. In ELA investigations of authors craft in reading pieces and in math projects involving geometry or proportions.

Guidance Counselors will present group sessions to students weekly on topics such as organization, study skills and knowledge about the SHSAT and specialized high schools.

GET READY FOR DREAM!


WHAT TO BRING


  • Electronic Device

- School or personal device; preferably

laptop or iPad

  • Something to write with (i.e. pencil, pen)
  • Optional: 1-2 notebooks and a folder






FIRST SESSION OF DREAM


  • Arrive by 8:30am at assigned location and have breakfast
  • Will be told your class number and given Spring schedule
  • Meet and get to know the staff; attend all 4 components of DREAM
  • Get materials and MetroCards
